Farewell Benjamin Tran
'Ben's guy on the bottom left with the stripy shirt'
In two days Ben would be leavin' to Japan for the next 11 months and before he leaves he wanted to enjoy the last outing he'll have in Sydney for a long time, doing most of his favourite things such as TimeZone, Karaoke and Mac's Angus Burger ^_^
Basically started the day off in TimeZone from early till 12:00pm, which I missed, followed by a quick lunch at Mac's before heading off for Karaoke at Echo Point for 5 hours. Can't really explain what happened at K but it was fun fun fun... There were so many jap songs.. and I think only one person there was actually Japanese.. 'I dunno any jap so I spent most of the time singing english songs although my EN library is pretty low too'. Then we watch Inglourious Basterds and had dinner at Hurricane's.
'Now am I suppose to write a tribute to Ben.. huh.. maybe I should've done one for Lap too'
I met Ben through the anime club although knowing only he was a friend of Lap's and like Lap he was also a gamer, one of the few in the club back in the days. His list of played games greatly surpasses mine but I have a pretty good knowledge of the gaming industry too therefore chatting and watnot was easy for us. Like gaming, his seen alot more anime than me but our opinions and reviews of them are similar so I guess we've got the same taste in things. His a great friend and hope for his quick return. Till August 2010 Ben~?

Capoeira
I was working at the Melody Markets today and one of the performances of the night is a Capoeira showcase. I don't get it, I just don't see it as a martial art cause they don't actually fight and I can't call it a dance either cause they don't really dance to the music.. I don't get it...

EasyWay Jay Chou
To start it off, I had terrible seats, I went with my family and from where we were located I can assume that they got the tickets pretty late 'but when I first found out about the concert tickets were already sold out so still good I guess'. We sat in 'mountain seats' in the furthest corner, ie behind the stage and projector screens... worst.
The concert however was pretty good 'although theres really no way to rate concerts so yeah'. I consider myself as a casual Jay Chou listener, not a complete fanatic and therefore abit selective on what songs I like from his collection but he did sing a few of my favorites so I was all good.
'There was so much mando, I had no idea wtf their saying.. just smile and nod'
There were like special guest performing aswell but I had no idea who they were. I got to give props to the stage dancers as well as I can see them pretty much performing the whole night in varies of styles from HipHop to Latin and everything in between. Ofcourse man of the hour '3-4hrof it' is Jay and his influence on so many people, the audience was just so into it that its just a amazing. I had to mention I was his performance with the Guzheng, the chinese string instrument, I have huge respect for chinese culture and it was just a nice touch.
There was also a proposal on stage and was a sweet thing to see... if only I knew what they were saying the whole time.
All in all, great concert.

Blogging Back
Ok here's are some major thing that happened during my absent
Night performance was great, I was performing a contemporary dance piece.I thought we were OK because during practice our timing and everything was right but at the show we were abit off. I blame stage fright.
Workshop started from 10am - 4pm, hour after hour of classes totalling 5. I attended;
Anthony Ikin's Acrobatic Techniques, which open to me trying to free hand cartwheel. 'still can't though'
Paul White's Advance Contemporary, which was good, nothing exactly to comment about
Rhiannon Villareal's Hip Hop, which was a very girly dance piece
Marko Panzic's Intermediate Lyrical, which was epic, liked it alot
JD's Hip Hop, which was more manly than Rhiannon's.. lol
I didn't buy anything in the stalls, it was all chick stuff XD
After Party was fun, I need to do hip hop just to get that freestyle dancing. I'm pretty amazed how salsa dancers can freestyle salsa aswell.

Signing Off, for a while..
In reaction, this will be my last post till 24th June which is the day of my last exam.
'yeh I'm going to post right after the exam.. maybe...'
'if I'm posting from now till 24th June, it means I'm procrastinating'
But before I go, here are some things I was going to post over the next few days
Movie: Star Trek
TV: Beautiful Cooking 2
Hong Kong's TVB has aired the second season to the sucessful reality-ish show Beautiful Cooking. Think Iron Chef with Cooking Mama and Dancing with the Star. Its a family friendly comedy show where female celebrities cook meals for a round of judges and two-thirds of the time the cooking is just so bad its funny.
Got to point this out.. The judges have like maid helpers through the show but they changed the girls this season with like super models which I didn't like, season one they were cutie girls, now they're just.. well.. lady's 'yeh I notice these things... its healthy'
Slice Of Life: Australian Dance Festival
ADF is a brand new festival starting this year and hopefully for many more years to come where you can meet and gather together with many dancers across Australia.
There's going to be 2 days of dance workshop where you can attend and try out the various of styles offered.
There will be exhibits from dance schools, dance retailers and services which support dancers.
Also there's going to be 5 shows to watch over the 3 days with 'It Takes Two' I assume focusing on paired dancing, 'All Things Contemporary' which consists of mainstream dance styles from Hip Hop to Contemporary and 'A Celebration of Cultures' which I think is like the asian/indian/brazilian dances.
The other two shows are on saturday and sunday afternoon with under 16 year olds.
The tickets seems abit confusing at least to me.. so its..
$35-45 for tickets to the shows individually
$200 for a day pass to go to the workshop and both shows
$275 for a full pass which is day pass but both days
'yeh the math doesn't add up'
'so you can't go to the workshop unless you get the day/full pass'
'There's also an after party each night so hhmm, whats a party with dancers going to be like.. dance off's??'
I have exams on the 15th and 16th June so I won't be able to attend all three days
I am performing in the dance festival in the 'All Things Contemporary' so I got a Performer Pass which is basically Full Pass with extra goodies. Because of that, I am only going on Saturday.
